Barefoot walk, overload and the nice chiropractor

In the last three weeks I have been spending a lot of my time in the forest. Just about two ours solid walk every day.

Three weeks ago I consulted a chiropractor because I have been feeling some light pain in my lower back. At that moment I was still injured everywhere, and I thought to myself that I should get rid of every single thing in my body that didn’t feel right, before I started to train again. So then I went to the chiropractor, and was pretty surprised when he told me that my spine and discus had been squeezed, and caused a lot of pain in the crossing nerves.

Now I should have started crying, but I was beginning to get use to this kind of references from doctors etc. This wasn’t exactly what I needed, but I can only thank myself for this problem because I have been focusing too much on upper body and stomach strength, that I have totally forgotten to strengthen my lower back muscles and ignored the small amount of pain for so long, and I just thought it would pass over in time, which is so stupid! But I still kept during the same kind of training I used to.

I think especially the big precisions have caused this.

Inevitably it led to overload because I haven’t been listening to the signals of my body.
For now on I will advise everyone to do much more core conditioning, and not to forget the lower back! If people got problems with their backs, I would strongly recommend seeing a chiropractor immediately, because these guys know their shit about the back, and can help you find out what’s wrong. Don’t think it will pass over by time because it often won’t.

I really think I have learned my lesson in listening to my body and for now on, respond to it and what it’s trying to tell me.

Already after three weeks of constant training, stretching and seeing the nice chiropractor man, I’m finally beginning to see some results, and I really can’t wait to train normally again, but I must get a hold on myself which is god damn hard..! But I cannot risk anything, so I must stay steady.

Back to the forest training:

Yesterday I walked 10 kilometers barefoot. I’ve thought about it many times, but this is the first time I’ve actually done it. Just as I predicted, my feet was weak, and it wasn’t very nice, but I will continue to walk barefoot as much as I can in the future, because I think it will highly increase strength in both the wrist and balls of the foot. In time I will be able to walk or run the same route, without feeling anything. Imagine how strong such feet would be like in a pair of trainers!! They would be invincible and I would be too.

Once you've gotten used to the forest and are able to run again, you should try having a run on the beach - it may not be as rough on the hide as the forest floor, but it'll train your balance and ancles much, much more. (I always try to go barefoot whenever feasible, so I have a wee bit of experience with various kinds of ground. :p)

Yes, one of the best people to talk to about neck and back pain is the chiropractor. If they are best suited to treat car accident-related back injuries, then they're sure also best for traceurs. Don't neglect even a slight pain on your back if it's been going on for quite a time. It certainly means that there's something wrong with it.
